Huangshan would be my second mountain in as many weeks, I wasn’t sure if I was prepared to be climbing another mountain when I didn’t even climb the first one. After a very quick breakfast of instant noodles, we rushed to the waiting bus which came at eight in the morning. My bus mates from my hostel were mostly strangers from other hostels but there were a few familiar faces from my hostel, the Japanese student, the pretty German lady and a British guy who also stayed in my room. It looks like I know who I will be going up the mountain with.
Huangshan isn’t very near Tunxi and it took us a bit ot time to get there. We got to know an independent Chinese traveller who decided to join us. He doesn’t speak much English but understands enough to be able to communicate with the others, although sometimes I would have to translate for him. Anyway, we probably got to the entrance at around 9:30 in the morning. It was already a bit chilly here and our Chinese friend thought it would be best to purchase some thermals just before the climb just in case it gets very cold up on the mountain. We would be spending the night on the mountain but our German friend won’t. She would be taking the cable car up since she needs to get back to Tunxi by nightfall. With a heavy heart, we said our farewells, and our group of four started our ascent.
