The moment I entered Xidi 西递 ancient town, I was looking at the the woods surrounding the town. Facing the tourist entrance, it was to the right of the town. I noticed that there was a slight elevation there and I wonder whether it was possible to get an overhead shot of this wonderful town. Visitors will have to pass through some fields to get to the place. The path wasn’t really obvious but you just need to trust your instincts.
There was a small pavillion where you can view the entire town. From here you get an idea of how big or small the place is. It also gives you a sense of how homogenous the town is. The roofs of the houses are all black while the houses themselves are all white. It wish that the contrast had been a bit higher since there was a bit of mist in the area. There were a few people at the lookout spot. It was a nice view and it was just a short walk from the entrance, visitors won’t go wrong to visit it.
