Confucius so inspired other people that he gained a large group of followers or disciples. These disciples were so influenced by Confucius teachings that some of them became teachers themselves. One of the more significant disciples Confucius had was Zi Gong 子贡. When Confucius passed away, the disciples of Confucius mourned and stood guard by the tomb of Confucius for three years before leaving. Zi Gong was one of these disciples.
What made Zi gong’s story more special was that after everyone else left, he stuck around for another three years. This deep love and respect for his teacher earned him respect everywhere. As a commemoration of this act, the Tomb Keeping Place was built beside the tomb of Confucius. It was a very simple little house and it was more symbolic more than anything. One cannot help by be impressed by this act of respect, more so knowing that he spent six years living in a cemetery.
