My motorcycle taxi finally released me when he could not no longer move forward since it was off limits to vehicles from that point onward. However, it was still not the entrance I was expecting. As it turns out, I still needed to walk quite a bit to get to the actual entrance here. It is actually a pleasant walk as it takes the main street that bisects the walled city of Qufu. The walk is lined with greenery and I thought I should have done this in the first place since the taxi didn’t really bring me that far in.
There is a main roundabout where most vehicles will let you off at and people just start walking here. I’m guessing that this is another one of those rules which the Kong 孔 family has imposed in these parts. Along the way, I would see a lot of eateries who proclaim that they serve Kong family cuisine, whatever that means. It looks like most of them are just trying to cash in on the famous surname.
