The Confucius Mansion is quite underwhelming. If you think about this, I was expecting to visit the home of one of the most well known people of all time, but as it turns out, his house was quite ordinary. Much of the mansion is one storey high and all were in dull colors. One would not think that such an important person lived here. The layout of the Confucius Mansion is much like an imperial palace where there are halls and halls one after the other.
I chanced upon the Third Hall which like most of the other halls in the Confucius Mansion is for the family to conduct their affairs. The Kong family which Confucius belongs to is privileged because of their heritage, and they have been accorded the rank of Duke of Yansheng 衍生公. This rank is something like a sacrificial officer for Confucius. Generations upon generations of decendants were given this rank as a sign of tremendous respect of the government to their family.
