More than a number of historical figures have come to visit Mount Tai over the centuries. Shandong province was known more than two thousand years ago as the State of Lu 鲁国 during the Spring and Autumn period 春秋时代. The state of Lu was known for producing several important personalities that have shaped the destiny of China. Of these personalities, probably Confucius would be the most well known outside of China.
Naturally, since he lived here it was most probable that he also climbed up Mount Tai sometime in his life. There is a place called the Terrace for Viewing Lu State which means that you can stand here and view the entire Lu State from this place. It is said that Confucius himself, stood here to observe Lu. There were huge Chinese characters of the name of the place carved into the terrace 瞻鲁台 which were carved back in the much later in Ming dynasty around five hundred years ago.
Interestingly, the view from the terrace wasn’t that great. I wonder what they can see from that distance. There was quite a bit of mist which obscured all but the closest mountains.
