Mount Tai became a UNESCO World Heritage site not only for the its cultural and religious significance, but also because of its geological and natural significance. Unusual in China, Shandong was the site of ancient geological upheavals. The results of this is Mount Tai. Mount Tai is basically a product of ancient fault lines that were active more than two billion years ago. Some of these rock are probably the oldest in this part of China.

It is little surprise then that Mount Tai has these interesting rock formations. Puny humans can only look on while Mother Nature shows of her raw power. It would take visitors a lot of time to explore the more rugged parts of Mount Tai and it is expected to take a few days to hike through it. There are a few trails going up and coming down, I, being the lazy one, took the easy route instead.
