Although the views from the top of Mount Tai are breathtaking, the mountain itself feels a bit disappointing, at least at this point. Since I was on top of the mountain, I can’t really see the mountain itself, maybe if I walk around a little bit. From the South Gate to Heaven 南天门, you meet up with the rest of the tourists/pilgrims who decided to walk up, and there are a lot of them. The good thing is, by this time they will probably be dog tired from three hours of walking to bother you.
Further on the top, was a large group of what appears to be Chinese commercial establishments. There were rows of overpriced hotels here. Usually for people who decide to see the sunrise from the top. I actually wanted to do that but I had to meet up with my friend that afternoon so I didn’t have a chance to do so. Anyway, there were rows of snacks shops offering a Taishan “local snack” which was pancake with some stuff in it. I didn’t try it though. Just so you won’t forget that Mount Tai is a sacred place, there were also shops selling Taoist articles. But most people who come here had already brought their own stuff, presumably because it is much more expensive here on top.
