It is hard to understate the importance of Mount Tai 泰山. It is not only very significant culturally, it is also very important geologically. Mount Tai is within the Taishan Global Geopark, which is part of the United Nation’s Global Geoparks’ Network. It’s aim is to promote the protection of the park while maintaining sustainable development in tourism. I arrived at the ticket area of the park and it was time to pay up. Entrance fee is CNY 125 for the mountain, CNY 30 for the bus to the middle of the mountain, CNY 80 for one way cable car ride.
Wow, that is a really expensive mountain. If you consider the thousands of people who climb the mountain everyday, then they must be really raking it in. You can choose to forego the CNY 30 and CNY 80 and walk up the mountain as a lot of people do, but you need to leave early for this. A lot of people stay on top of the mountain for the night and it should be a good idea to bring some warm clothes. From the ticket booths, visitors queue up for the bus, be warned that some tour groups may block you from getting on your bus, just push your way through them. As long as you have a bus ticket, they will let you on.
