The Water Cube and the Bird’s Nest stadium are not the only structures in the Olympic Green. There are yet a few more of them, one of them was the Beijing National Indoor Stadium 北京国家体育馆. As the name implies this is where indoor events are held. During the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics, the indoor stadium played host to the artistic gymnastics events. This is the first time I have seen the indoor stadium as I didn’t even know it existed.
I guess the Beijing National Indoor Stadium’s design pales in comparison to the more interesting designs of the Water Cube and the Bird’s Nest stadium. This one is nicknamed The Fan 扇子, although I don’t really see the resemblance. Maybe I just don’t know what a Chinese fan looks like. The design of the building is not as ground breaking as its neighbors as it is more contemporary design. After the Olympics this too has been repurposed as a venue for performances and other sporting events.
