The National Aquatics Center or popularly known as the Water Cube is certainly an impressive piece of architecture. In the daytime, the plastic “bubbles” of the water cube reflect in the bright sun. At the same time, it also lets some light in providing light to the facility thus conserving energy. Practically the entire cube is covered in the “bubbles” including the roof. You can get aa better view of this on Google Maps.
The Water Cube is also meant to be a spectacle at night since the rest of the world was coming to visit. I arrived there quite close to sundown so I was fortunate enough to see the Water Cube light up at night. As one would expect, a structure called Water Cube will be a nice color of blue at night. The “bubbles” were all lit up completing the illusion that it is indeed a water cube. I was under the impression that there would be more colors other than blue and I was waiting to see if the colors can change, but it didn’t. Maybe it doesn’t change, anyone here knows?
