The further in your go into the Forbidden City, the more buildings you encounter. This also means that there people will be packed even closer together. In a major tourist attraction such as the Forbidden City, that means bad news for visitors. This early inside the inner court, the large number of visitors to the Forbidden City can already be felt. The Hall of Union and Peace 交泰殿 is one of these places which somehow attract all the people.
The Hall of Union and Peace not as impressive as the other halls that I have seen here in the Forbidden City, in fact it looks more like a pavillion rather than a hall what with its small size. As with the other halls in the Forbidden City, this too has a throne in the center. The inside of the hall is just as ornate as the others but somehow the throne looks a little subdued. The words “Doing Nothing” 无为 were written by Emperor Kangxi and it is pasted on top of the throne, perhaps saying what is on his mind.
