While it is true that the Putuozongcheng Temple was built as a replica of the Potala Palace in Tibet, the Ming builders still put in a little bit to Ming aesthetics to their temple. As a result, the Putuozongcheng Temple is said to be a fusion of Chinese and Tibetan architecture. Although the Tibetan side is probably most apparent, you would be surprised to see very Chinese features in some parts of the temple.
It has been my dream to be able to visit the Potala Palace in Tibet but fulfilling that dream will still be a long way off. This would be the next best thing to visiting the real thing. As you go around the temple you will notice several very Tibetan features, the most prominent one will be the presence of Tibet prayer flags all over the place. Although the Putuozongcheng Temple is really huge is does seem to be devoid of life, in fact, it is not considered an active temple. It primarily serves as a tourist attraction these days.
