Although the Putuozongcheng Temple is not as massive as the nearby Mountain Resort, there is still a lot of land that needs to be covered here. Since this is a replica of the Potala Palace, it doesn’t seem likely that it will be small. Also keep in mind that the temple complex was built on the side of a hill which means more stair climbing. The main building seems high but I wonder if it is possible to climb all the way to the top.
Similar to the Mountain Resort, there were still tourists here and they are driven by the busload, but the place is sufficiently big enough for you not to notice them. Fortunately, for me, low season has just about started but not quite. The temple grounds a more of less symmetrical so it won’t be easy to get lost. Surprisingly, vendors aren’t really plentiful here and neither are the guides. Which reminds me, that I didn’t even receive an offer to be guided ever since I arrived in Chengde.
