When one thinks of tourists attractions in China, the very first thing that comes to mind would no doubt be the Great Wall of China. I originally wanted to walk from Jinshanling 金山岭 to Simatai 司马台 in Beijing Municipality. The epic hike was supposed to take around six hours and it considered as one of the best Great Wall experiences. However, as I found out in my hostel, the Simatai section of the Great Wall was closed. Wait, closed?! I couldn’t believe it but that was what they said. I didn’t even read this in my research. Apparently, Simatai will be closed for three years for repairs and redevelopment. I hope it won’t end up as an amusement park.
Apparently, I already entered the Jinshanling Great Wall area the wrong way. I shouldn’t have followed the advice of that vendor and instead followed the main path. Which would have led me to another end of the wall, a portion which I ended up not visiting because of lack of time. It seems like I went at the perfect time since the weather was great, if you excuse the pun. It was cold but if I would be huffing and puffing my way up the wall, I probably will not notice the cold anymore. So let’s begin exploring the Great Wall of China!
