One of the places which is allowed by the through ticket I purchased is the Wenchang Court 文昌院. I was wondering what is so special about this place that they need a separate entrance for it. Fortunately, I still have a little time before I need to leave this place. I decided to take a quick peek at Wenchang Court. Upon entering the Wenchang Court grounds there was a ticket checker who makes sure that you have the correct ticket. Inside, I was surprised to see cars in what looked like a parking lot. It seems I wasn’t really inside yet since there was another entrance to go through and another ticket checker to hurdle. I found this rather inefficient since they needed to hire two people to do the same work.
So how was Wenchang Court then? Basically is a court yard with a couple of halls around it. Inside the halls where exhibits on different kinds of Chinese art such as carving, or calligraphy. I would have to admit having no interest in this kind of thing but I’m these are just as important as wonderful scenery. I guess they separated the payment of the Wenchang Court to limit the number of people coming here and also to make people more aware of this place. Maybe if people think that if you need to pay to go in, then it must be good.
The art galleries themselves aren’t very big. They were mostly displaying small stuff like porcelain plates hidden behind protective glass. There were staff manning each gallery just to make sure you don’t do funny stuff. Though they were just chatting with each other most of the time. Surprisingly, photography was allowed here in the gallery, so you can take as many photos as you want.
