Kunming Lake is an man-made lake built for the purpose of supplying water to Beijing. Over the centuries it has been deepened and widened to what it is today. Naturally, there are several outlet for the waters of the lake to flow through, as such, bridges become a necessity. The designers of the park also take their chance to include the bridge as part of the beauty of the Summer Palace grounds. The Bridge of Pastoral Poems 豳风桥 is one of the more prominent bridges along the shores of Kunming Lake.
The bridge not only serves to allow visitors to cross the water, but it also serves as a great vantage point for viewing the Tower of Buddhist Incense and Wanshou Hill. The bridge is also a great resting spot for weavy visitors who had to go through throngs of other visitors to get to this part of the park. Its excellent location along Kunming Lake make it a great place to finally enjoy what the Summer Palace has to offer you.
