I came to explore the Cameron Highlands in the hopes of see colonial style buildings, not like the old shophouses you can see in Melaka or Singapore but the real structures from the British era. The Lakehouse beside the Sultan Abu Bakar artificial lake is a perfect example of that. The Lakehouse is actually a hotel and a restaurant. For a hotel it doesn’t really have that many rooms, only 18. But each of the rooms have been priced quite high that it doesn’t really matter.
I didn’t get to see the interiors of the hotel itself since it is after all, private property. There were, however, photos of the suites and it is really very homey. It looks like its been lifted from a page of a book. The staff at the door was watching us so I didn’t have any chance to enter the place. I guess they already know how attractive their place is so they need to make sure that tourist don’t just wander inside the hotel.
The Lakehouse it built on top of a small hill overlooking the Sultan Abu Bakar Lake. This really makes an alluring scene which is quite attractive to couples. Unfortunately, The Lakehouse is situated far away from Tanah Rata, so you would need your own transportation to get here. You can however try their bus service which arrives whenever they please, but try to make your schedule flexible. Another thing is that because of its remoteness, there is hardly anything to do here. There is a row of shops at the foot of the hill where you can buy fruit and snacks but other than that there is nothing here. Still for those you want a taste of luxury here in Cameron Highlands and have a car, you can try out The Lakehouse.
