One of the pleasures of visiting the MacRitchie Nature Park is the chance to go hiking. Yes, Singapore doesn’t really have very tall mountains but at least they manage to have a place which is conducive to hiking. It is important to know how far you want to go since it was surprisingly long. I wasn’t fully prepared for this as I was expecting a simple walk in the park. Although large portions of the park’s paths consist of boardwalk or cemented paths, the rest are just dirt roads.
You will need proper walking shoes here, if you intend to walk the rough portions, you’ll need hiking shoes or sandals. Try to bring water, although there is water all around you since it is a reservoir, there is hardly anywhere you can buy drinks aside from the entrance area. Much of the land is still rain forest, as such you will need bug repellant. I don’t normally bring bug repellant and neither did I expect the paths to cut through rain forest. The bugs didn’t bother me that much though.
