This was actually my snack after the not so exciting breakfast at The Baba House. The meal of Melaka laksa left me craving for more to eat. I decided to try the other queue outside the stall. This queue was for dessert. They specialize in a couple of well known Malaysian desserts. However, most of the customers were all having chendol. They called it Baba Chendol at Jonker 88 so I decided to give it a try.
Cendol is a type of dessert which is composed of pandan derived worm-like jelly. They are mixed with ice shavings and topped with sweet syrup. The sweet syrup in this case is dark palm sugar locally called gula Melaka, a local specialty. I thought the dessert was a perfect break from the already hot morning sun. The cendol was nice but not too sweet. Then again, I do have a sweet tooth myself and have been known to take a lot of much sweeter stuff. The cendol here may already be too sweet for other people. Anyways, it is a nice and refreshing snack that is perfect for a day of exploring the historic town of Melaka.
