Weekends in the Melaka’s Chinatown may be an experience in extremes. Jonker Street with its extremely crowded night market draws in practically all of Melaka onto that single street. Why do I say that? It is because when I go to the street right next to Jonker Street, there are hardly any people there. It was as if the streets were abandoned. I was guessing that the shophouses there aren’t really for staying but more like a museum.
Even the Melaka Town Square wasn’t spared this treatment. Just as Melaka Town Square was crowded that morning, the Melaka Town Square is practically deserted at night. Only a few hardy photographers were there to catch this rare sight. A few tricycle drivers will still try to tout but not as much as that morning. The town square is lighted up but that impressive though. I would have wanted some warmer colors, perhaps a little advice from some experts would do the trick.
