As I was done with my exploration of A’Famosa Portuguese fort, there wasn’t much for me to see beyond here. Further out from A’Famosa is a huge shopping mall just across the street. It was rather unsightly to locate a major mall so near the historic areas but nothing can be done about it now. It was already there when I first visited which made me think of Melaka as one large shopping mall with some ruins behind it.
Well, since the shopping mall was already there, I might as well take advantage of it. I got some refreshments at the mall while taking a little rest from all the walking. Fortunately, much of the walk was shaded, not to mention the mall was airconditioned. Having been refreshed somewhat, I started my way back to Chinatown, to make it in time for Holy Mass at the Church of Saint Francis Xavier. I was immediately taken by the huge number of museums along the road.
I could say that Melaka probably has the largest concentration of museums in such as small area. They set up museums for anything you can imagine. There is a Stamp Museum, one for the Malay and Islamic World, a museum for democracy, a presidential museum, a literature museum and a lot more. If you are a museum buff, it would take you a few days to cover these museums. Note that these museums charge individual entrance fees.
