Right beside the ground of the Masjid Kampung Kling, is another place of worship for yet another religion – Hinduism. The Sri Poyyatha Vinayaga Moorthy is a mouthful of a name for Malaysia’s oldest Hindu temple. This temple is dedicated to the Hindu diety Vinayagar or Ganesh. It was built at the time of Melaka’s trading prominence. The temple wasn’t the normal colorful Hindu temple, I am normally accustomed to. This one was much more simple and actually a little tacky with the massive sign on the entrance.
It would seem that my luck was running true to form since the temple was also closed so I can only stand outside the hot sun taking photos of the temple. I don’t think I arrived at lunch hour though since it was already way past it. Anyway, it was too bad since I would have wanted to take something other than Chinese temples or old Peranakan houses.
