Interestingly, the centerpiece of the Marina Barrage was not the actual barrage but rather a water themed elevated park. The structure consists of two large flyover-like structures curving like ribbons forming two ramps. Visitors can climb the ramps around the building. The structure is impressively large with the central portion of the building allocated to a nice fountain area and the ramps give you an excellent view of the fountains. To my pleasant surprise, the two ramps lead to an elevated park. I guess this is where the old green area of Marina Bay went to.
Off to the side of the building is the pump house which as the name suggests, houses the water pumps of the barrage. This is part of the barrage which helps maintain the water level of the new Marina Reservoir. I was surprised to see quite a lot of people already visiting the Marina Barrage. To think I was only vaguely aware of the existence of this place. I’m glad that the government built this place, not only does it help to augment Singapore’s water supply, it is now a pleasant place to just hang around and do nothing.
