Probably my least liked Singapore Living Gallery is the one focusing on fashion, specifically, women’s fashion. Upon entry into the gallery you would be greeted by, naturally, dresses. The clothes on display were from several decades back and most of it were preserved. There were western style clothes and there were also Chinese style clothes. There was a little background story on the entry of western style clothes and how they were anti-establishment since Singapore after all is a primarily Chinese society.
There were also exhibits featuring stuff you would see on a woman’s dresser, such as combs, make up, mirrors and jewel boxes. It seemed like these were just grabbed from a grandmother’s dresser and put on display. The next room featured how the clothes were made, and naturally, it included sewing machines. I guess it is no surprise that the sewing machines on display were made by Singer. There was a colorful display of fabric on the walls but it didn’t really interest me other than it being colorful.
