One of my favorite places to eat at with my friends is at Yang Gui Fei 羊贵妃 in Singapore’s Chinatown. Their roasted lamb ribs are to die for. They also have a lot of other dishes to satisfy your taste buds and they have never failed to satisfy me. So imagine my delight to find out that Yang Gui Fei set up a branch in Cathay Cineleisure in Singapore. The branch is at a food court so I would expect that the prices would be more friendly. I was probably asking too much if they would have roast lamb with rice but unfortunately, they didn’t offer that.
This stall specializes in noodles for which the city of Xi’an is famous for. I tried one of their noodle dishes whose name escapes me right now, it is basically one single piece of noodle, a very long and broad one, cooked and put in a clear and tasteless soup. To add flavor, the diner is supposed to dip the noodle or part of it in chili which is provided to them. It takes a while to get used to the extremely long noodle and there is no choice but to just cut it somewhere so that you can eat it. As expected, the chili really provides all of the flavor and you won’t remember that the soup is tasteless. It makes me wonder who invented this dish and what is up with the one single piece of extremely long noodle.
For people looking for stuff other than noodles, Yang Gui Fei also serves barbeque Chinese style. The chili and cumin bring a lot of flavor to the meat which is put in skewers. I have been a regular customer of this stall, but unfortunately, the Yang Gui Fei branch doesn’t seem to be doing that well as the food might seem a little too foreign. However, brave souls will be rewarded by taste which is quite different from the rest of the fare here.
Update: Sadly, the branch is no longer there. However, you can still visit their original shop at Smith Street in Chinatown.
