Pulau Ubin is one of the least developed places in the entire Singapore. As a result, much of the island is left as a nature reserve with plenty of hiking and biking trails criss-crossing the island. I was never a great bicycle rider and I would stop at the slightest hint of other cyclists in front or behind me or worse, an on-coming car. Fortunately, for me, Pulau Ubin does not have a large population of cars, in fact most of the vehicles you will see are public vans which bring people from one point to another.
Of course, the point of coming to Pulau Ubin is to absorb the atmosphere of Pulau Ubin so taking a van is definitely out of the question. Visitors who do not know how to ride a bike can always hike. Be warned though there is very little in the way of shade here. Most of the area is exposed. There are also a lot of swampy areas so it would be advisable to bring insect repellant. A lot of the paths are paved and are perfect for biking or hiking. Some parts are quite rough with sharp rocks and it would a more challenging to ride a bicycle here.
