Continuing my Southern Ridge Walk, almost missed one of the significant features of the hike. Discreetly tucked away just beside the main road was a sign which saw Terrace Gardens. From the outside you would not even know that there was something of interest in the part of the hike. The entrance to the Terrrace Gardens is a stairway covered with a thick growth ot trees. If this were not Singapore, I probably would not have gone up that stairway.
The thick growth of plants soon gave way to a clearing on which stands a terrace in a garden setting, thus the name. The terrace was built and used during the war since gives the military 360 views of the surrounding area. It is now a popular place for photographers and weddings pictorials. The terraces are planted with a large amount of flowering places which makes it look quite attractive.
From the top, you can see a bit of the 360 degree view that was so important back then. There are a lot of trees in the way now so you cannot really see the full 360 degrees. But you get a good view of the Alexandra area and the central business district from far away. Surpriingly, there were not a lot of people here when I visited, probably because it was too hot. I’m just glad that I can have the garden all to myself.
