Okay, Singapore is hardly a place you would find good hiking trails. Being a city, although people here do walk a lot, hiking is not really one of the things you here people doing here. However, as I discovered, the government has embarked on a park connecting scheme which literally connects parks together through “park connectors”. One of the latest beneficiaries of this is what is now marketed as the Southern Ridges.
The trail of the Souther Ridges starts or ends, depending on your point of view, at Mount Faber, Singapore’s highest point. I’m reluctant to call it a mountain because it really is just a small hill. There is a trail from the the road below to the top which I once did sometime back, imagine my surprise when I saw a taxi when I got to the top. This time around, I took the National Parks Buses which brings people to Mount Faber Park.
The view from Mount Faber is nowhere near as spectacular as Hong Kong, but anytime you get to go high places in Singapore it is really something new since the country is really very flat. You get a good view of the surrounding apartment buildings, not really very inspiring though. But since this is a park, there are a lot of trees in the area and it is a nice place to hang out in.
