Sunset on Inle Lake

Well, we finally concluded our tour of Inle Lake. We left the Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery just before sundown and it was already getting dark quite fast. The sun disappears even faster in Inle Lake since it has a high elevation. We were cruising back to Nyaungshwe when we were witness to a wonderful sunset right on the lake itself. The haze in the area only amplified the colors of the setting sun.

There were still some fishermen hard at work on the lake itself and it provided a wonderful foreground for the sunset. Apparently, our boatman also knows that, so he was moving slowly to allow me to take some photos. The setting sun reflected off the placid waters of Inle Lake giving quite a few wonderful shots. We also passed by some photographers who were also on the lake taking photos of the sunset.

This was probably one of the better sunsets I’ve had, and I was really lucky to have experienced it on such a scenic place as Inle Lake. We needed to hurry back to Nyaungshwe though since the sun was going down very fast. There other boats of the lake were also rush back to their villages since there is no electricity, it will be pitch black here on the lake. I don’t know how they would navigate in the dark though, probably by the stars.

The timing of the tour was impeccable as it ended with a wonderful sunset on the lake. I thought this was a fitting end to my tour of Inle Lake, and it was all worth it, after all I waited four days to go on this tour. Truly, this is one of the highlights of a trip to Myanmar.
