One of my favorite places to eat in Manila is at Shakey’s pizza restaurant. Now, this is a restaurant I hardly find anywhere else in the world. As it turns out, the number of franchisees of Shakey’s has shrunk tremendously in the United States. And amazingly, the Philippines now has more branches than the United States has. It has been a rough ride for Shakey’s Pizza but it does look like they are here to stay in the Philippines.
Whenever I am here, I always have their thin crust pizza. However, since I was the only one eating, I couldn’t possibly order the pizza I wanted. So I just had the bunch of lunch. Which unfortunately, had a thicker pizza that goes along with it. Another standard order for me is an order of Mojo potatoes. These are basically slices of potatoes. However, it seems that the Mojo potatoes have also changed and they are much thicker than they used to be. I remember eating the thin sliced potatoes with the oil still dripping from it. It was so good, but they the shakey’s bosses decided that they needed to be thicker. They were still okay, but I liked them better when they were thin. And not just a few of my friends can vouch for that. I really hope they bring it back.
