As night fell in Alona Beach in Panglao, I started to walking around the restaurant row of the beach. There are a lot of choices here and they can cater to all sorts of tastes, mostly western though. Whenever I visit the Philippines, I make it a point to eat some stuff which I hardly get to eat elsewhere, so western food is out of the question.
I came upon this humble little restaurant named Trudi’s which happened to be recommended by the massage lady from earlier. The food here is okay, and it less pricey than its counterparts. I finally decided to eat here and pulled up a chair in their covered area along the beach. They didn’t really have that much of an attractive eating area, in fact, the eating area looks quite sorry with the tent and a few plastic tables and chairs underneath some flourescent lights. Not very enticing in my opinion.
I ordered what can be considered as the Philippines national dish, it is called adobo. Adobo is actually more of a way of cooking but most of the time it would involve chicken or pork. The sauce is basically soy sauce and vinegar with the meat all thrown in to stew. It makes an appetizing dish. In the case of Trudi’s, I thought it was a bit too salty. Maybe I haven’t been eating adobo that often anymore and maybe I have gotten used to bland food. Oh well.
