Behind the Dauis Church

Outrigger Canoe by the Sea

Outrigger Canoe by the Sea

As I continued past the small park behind the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Dauis, I realized that the church was actually built beside the sea. In fact, the watchtower just behind me probably served as a lookout tower for any invaders. Jutting out towards that sea is a small jetty made of wood. I wasn’t sure whether the jetty was in acitve commercial use but there were a couple of outrigger canoes parked by the jetty building.

The wooden structure where the boats were parked was creaky and the floor had a few missing planks and it would not be too far fetched for anyone to miss their step and fall right through the floor. Not good. There were a couple of kids at the structure and they seemed to be fixing the boat. While I was carefully walking through the structure, the kids were just running around like nothing.

The jetty was a welcome rest for me since the afternoon sun was really burning hot. I can imagine how this can be a really popular spot for the locals since you get to be by the sea and you have a good view of Bohol island. The wind was really nice here and thought it would be nice if I just lay down the bench and slept for a couple of hours. But alas my schedule will not allow such a thing. So after half and hour of resting from the burning heat, I was off again.
