Sta. Monica Church in Alburquerque

Sta. Monica Church in Alburquerque

From the town of Loay, I took another multi-cab towards Tagbilaran city heading to my next town. I find the transport system quite convenient here in Bohol since I can just hop on practically any public transportation and get to my intended destination. It also helps that they do not have too many roads in the first place. As long as you know which direction Tagbilaran City is, you should not get lost here. My next stop is the town of Alburquerque – amusingly called Albur by the locals. I can’t really blame them, Alburquerque is quite a mouthful.

Another Angle of the Lovely Church

Another Angle of the Lovely Church

The main feature of this town is the lovely church of Sta. Monica. It would be difficult to miss this church since it is right beside the highway and the bright red roof really makes it stand out. Relatively speaking, Sta. Monica Church is a bit of a newcomer since it was built “only” in the late 1800s. This particularly attractive church has a spacious plaza in front lined with trees. It seems that the lawn is also quite well kept. The design of the church itself is quite different from the others I have been to – for starters the belltower is built onto the church building itself and it at the center of the church facade.

Finally Some Shade

Finally Some Shade

There is a large building which served as a convent and it is connected to the main church by a bridge supported by elegant arches. The church was again closed leaving me with no other choice but to just roam around the church complex. It was already almost noon and it was really searing hot here with hardly any shade. I’m sure by the end of this trip I would be getting a very bad sunburn because of this.
