Dimiao is a town along the southern edge of Bohol. The convenient circumferential road takes you to all of the major towns around Bohol. My bus from Tagbilaran City is heading to the town of Valencia which conveniently passes by the town of Dimiao. The town is rather unremarkable and probably the only place worth visiting here would be the old church.
The church of Dimiao is dedicated to San Nicolas Tolentino also known as Saint Nicholas of Tolentine and was probably built in the 1700s. The church has two bell towers flanking each side. Interestingly enough, the bell towers are built together with the church, the first one I have seen in Bohol. At that time the church was closed, to my dismay. This would be the second time that I have encountered a closed church. I used to think that churches are supposed to be always open. Apparently not.
Just like every other church here in Bohol, it also has a spacious plaza for activities. There weren’t too many visitors in the church and considering that it is right beside the main highway of Bohol, it was a little surprising. The church is a little less visited that the other more well known churches in Bohol and could be considered as off the beaten track. However, to visitors who really want to know every inch of Bohol, this would be a great place to drop by.
