Mactan-Cebu International Airport

The Mactan-Cebu Interantional Airport is quite small despite being an international airport, the second biggest after the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila. And just like the Manila airport, this also serves as a domestic airport serving various cities in the country. Cebu is, after all, the second largest city in the Philippines. The name of the airport comes from the fact that it is located on Mactan Island which is in the province of Cebu.

It was quite obvious the airport doesn’t get as much air traffic as its big brother up north. As a result, the airport is rather tiny. I breezed through the entire terminal within a few minutes since I didn’t even have any check-in baggage. There was public transport right outside the terminal going to various points in the Cebu mainland and Mactan Island. The sight of multicabs made me realize that this is no longer Manila. The multicabs are more popular in the “provinces” unlike Manila. Also, people here would be speaking the local Cebuano dialect, in contrast to the Tagalog or Filipino language that is spoken in the capital. Actually people would rather speak to you in English rather than Tagalog, probably because it would be much easier for them to converse in English.
