I got to Sagada around five in the afternoon and I got some more time to spare before dinner. The village of Sagada is very different from the other towns and cities that I visited in the Philippines. Perhaps the most obvious difference is the complete lack of tricycles here. It is very quiet, unlike other places where the incessant sound of smoke belching tricycles drown out the sounds of nature.
There is public transportation here. Most of it is centered on the town square where most buses and jeepneys will be waiting to fill up. The main road of Sagada is paved with cement and is great for travelling and hiking. Thankfully, the number of vehicles here is not a lot so it is okay to be walking on the road.
The weather here is particularly pleasant since it is on top of a mountain the air is very fresh indeed. Comparisons to another mountain city is inevitable. Baguio is also another mountain resort probably at the same elevation too. But in contrast, Baguio has become Manila on a mountain. Yes, the weather is still cool but it has become too crowded now and the number of people has started to put a strain on public utilities.
Sagada is like Baguio as it should be. The scent of pine trees waft through the air. There are numerous paths where one can go explore the town. I didn’t really have a plan in mind yet, so I just following the main road. There are a couple of interesting houses along the way too. Each of them built in harmony with the environment.
