The hostel we stayed at in Zhangjiajie City was the Zhangjiajie Zhongtian International Youth Hostel 张家界中天国际青年旅舍. This is also a member of Hosteling International group of hostels and inns all across major cities in China. I purchased a membership card for RMB50 back in Chongqing and we still continue to use their hostels we some discount. Already the card has paid for itself fotunately.
This hostel is along a major intersection in Zhangjiajie City and it quite convenient to go to the train station from here. In keeping with the Hosteling International’s standard of quality, Zhangjiajie Zhongtian International Youth Hostel does not disappoint in the quality of service they provide. The rooms are spotlessly clean. The rooms even come with a nice glass walled bathroom.
Our rooms came with the standard amenities, aircon or heater, hot shower, TV. I can say that the standard of hostels here in China is quite high considering the price was paid for the room. We would be staying in Zhangjiajie City for quite a few days so it was nice to be staying such a nice place.
The lobby has a nice resting area for guests to read or play. It would have been nice to stay at this area if only the current users weren’t smoking. It never ceases to annoy me how they continually smoke indoors. The whole area already reeks of cigarette smoke. To the right of the reception desk is a somewhat poorly lit internet surfing area. I would probably need to surf for information since I need to plan on how to proceed from here.
Since we would be staying for a few days here, I think it is the best time for me for a laundry break. For a small fee, I can use the washing machine and dry my clothes at their drying area. It is on the outside of the hostel area, somewhat like a storage area. But I didn’t really care since I needed some fresh clothes for a change. Good thing is cold here so I don’t sweat so much or else I would be stinking.
There is a small garden outside the drying area and I guess it would be nice to stroll around for a while. There is a small water mill built with the water feature. The minorities of Hunan are known for their use of such things.
Zhangjiajie Zhongtian International Youth Hostel is a great place to stay in Zhangjiajie. I thought it was really good value for any traveller. The only downside is that it is not really near the Wulingyuan park. One still has to travel an hour to get there. However, that has already been rectified when they established a branch in the park. I would love to stay there sometime.
To get to the hostel, keep in mind that visitors will have to go to the 4th level of the building it is in.
