Tully Castle is another plantation castle in county Fermanagh. It is situated on top of a hill and it has expansive views of the surrounding area including that of Lough Erne. When looking at Tully Castle, I thought that the state preservation of the castle was not bad at all. It has most of its walls intact, while the roof is already gone. The bawn is apparently still intact and it provides a natural boundary on where the grounds of the castle lie. Like much of these scottish castles, these are basically stone buildings which served as dwelling places for whoever chose to move here. This area was probably not an easy place to live in which is why it was fortified this much.
These days it is just a monument to days long past. It actually looks more like a park than a castle. The castle is actually part of a walk called Loughshore walk. While I think the lough might be too far to be actually included in the walk. The views which I was afforded here in Tully Castle make me long to try the walk myself. Alas, I don’t have time to find out how long the walk actually takes. I guess this is another reason for me to come back here.
