I think I need to get this out of the way quickly. I love chocolate and imagine my delight that Belgium was my destination for travel this time around. In case you haven’t heard, Belgium happens to be known as one of the world’s great producers of chocolate. These aren’t those run of the mill chocolate bars but specialty shops. Europe has a love for chocolate that they also have these kinds of shops. If you happen to see a chocolate specialty shop elsewhere in the world, chances are they are Belgian. Among these specialty shops, on it arguably the most successful and more commercialized – Leonidas.
Even before coming here, I already knew about Leonidas. I remember seeing these shops in Manila and Singapore and just passing them by since they looked expensive. I thought, I won’t be able to afford to pay the price of a little piece of heaven. Well, here we were at the source of it all, Belgium city center has a lot of Leonidas shops scattered all around. I didn’t even notice that it was a Leonidas shop, my friend had a craving for ice cream and just approached this shop. I thought it was just a mere ice cream shop. When I tasted the ice cream with Belgian chocolate poured on it of course, my first reaction was to exclaim that this was the smoothest ice cream I have ever had. Granted that a tub of branded ice cream for me is already good enough for me, but this was on a totally different level. I took a look at the label of the ice cream and realized it was Leonidas. I didn’t even know they had ice cream.
Turns out, not all of the Leonidas shops here had ice cream. We just happened to stumble into the one that did and I was so glad we did. It was difficult to compare now since the ice cream was so smooth that I totally forgot about the chocolate which was poured in the cone. There was chocolate chips was well on the ice cream which gave a little contrast to the smoothness of the ice cream. Truly outstanding for me, if this was how the snacks are here in Belgium, and I would want to try all the others.
